Honest Emerson’s!
In the brewing world, when a problem starts to brew … something big enough to affect your most popular label … like our Emerson’s Pilsner … what do you do?
The answer, in the case of our Pilsner, is pure and simple!
At all costs hold that amazingly crisp and piquant flavour and at all times be totally up front with our ardent Pilsner faithful.
OK, what’s the problem?
A key ingredient can no longer be supplied.
And what is that ingredient?
A variety of New Zealand grown organic hops, known as Riwaka, is no longer available as a result of low cropping levels and poor yields for the hop farmer.
Now, how do you get around this without disappointing thousands?
Change the recipe by using another organic hop variety? … No way!
Keep quiet about it and hope that none of our fans notice? … Heck no!
That’s not the Emerson’s way … we’re true to our brew and our customers.
The only solution is to switch to the non-organic variety of the Riwaka hops and hold that unique, beautiful flavour. We will still continue to use as many local organic ingredients as we can source.
Announcing the decision Richard Emerson comments:
“While we value the organic status of the beer, we also know that our customers love the distinctive aromas and flavours of Emerson’s Pilsner. Changing to another organic hop would have maintained the original status, but the beer would inevitably be quite different. For us that’s just not an acceptable option. We are confident Emerson’s drinkers will respect our decision and will continue to enjoy our Emerson’s Pilsner tasting its best.”
